Day 6!

Today was a good day! I left early for Selian Lutheran Hospital http://selianlh.habari.co.tz/, I followed Dr. Joel Streng around for a couple of hours. The ICU was filled with children again. More cases of AIDS/TB, cerebral hemorrhage, pneumonia, cerebral meningitis. Things of that nature. A Masai Momma told me to take life "pole" or slow (pronounced polay) as I pondered outside the hospital. I caught a ride with a hospital group heading into the new medical center until their jeep died a couple kilometers away. I walked back and talked to the local kids on the side of the road handing out my trail mix with M&M's in it. Hopefully they enjoyed it, probably because I could see the peanuts in their teeth when I left after cathing a ride into town later. I then interviewed the head of administration at the new hospital to work on a few issues that have come up. Waited around for a ride from my roommate, Dr. Joel Streng. We headed home after stopping at a safari business to talk shop and I saw my first monkeys! Then we got home and read for a few hours before supper while soaking in the beautiful equatorial climate with our feet touching the grass. Its a relief from the bumpy, dusty roads all day when traveling from clinic to hospital. We ate fresh pineapple, drank tea, and thanked our Masai guard for washing our jeep. Every night we bring out a plate of peanut butter bread and coffee with milk to him as it keeps him awake and happy. If they lions fear the Masai, then its best to be sided with them! Joel gave me a swahili lesson after supper and now I'm off to bed shortly.

Tomorrow, I'm going to review a medication stock list for the ICU and take a inventory of the medication trolley while starting an accounting project. Sounds like I may get to write a grant for children needing short term orthopedic care at a charity house up the way. My duties are solidifying.

Thanks for the birthday wishes on facebook as I just checked them today! Talk soon.
