Habari za jioni

Today I caught a ride from my Australian and New Zealand friends, Matt Bailey and wife Jane, to work this morning. He is an ICU doc and she is an ICU nurse who preside in New Zealand. They took a safari across Europe, through Turkey, Egypt and Kenya. He came to ALMC to work on the ICU, setting up the ward. Matt and I worked together on an inventory for the ward in the early afternoon. Also while visiting the ICU today, I had a great swahili lesson from an aide working there. Tomorrow, I promised him to bring my camera for pictures.

Speaking of that..great pictures today. I was investigating a beautiful tree in our yard and found this interesting creature...

A Preying Mantis :)

Also I have a picture of our Masai guards:

In the red is our guard, while our neighbor's is in the blue. Sorry for the blurry photo, I'll try and get another tomorrow that is a bit more proper. In that photo notice that I am holding his walking cane and his hand is on my shoulder. He made sure I did. Exactly what it means, I'm not sure but I think it means friendship and trust. Later, as I was reading outside on the lawn and our guard slowly came up to me and handed me this piece of paper...

Poa Masai! He had to walk across the road to have this translated. I am most eager to deliver.

Besides a very beautiful day here, Joel and I jogged past a high school (?) soccer game that was very exciting to see. Joel is in his 60's so all the locals call him babu (old man) and say pole (sorry your working so hard) as we run by. Everyone here is a straight shooter...meaning they literally they call it like they see it. I try to retort as quickly as possible with "mzee" meaning wise old man!!

It makes the locals laugh :)
